Aga Khan Rural Support Programme(India) Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (India) is a non-denominational, non-government organization. AKRSP (I) was established in Gujarat in 1984 and it seeks to contribute to rural poverty reduction through community involvement and empowerment that leads to the efficient management and improved productivity of natural resources. Position: Chief Agriculture officer/Sr. Manager (Sustainable Agriculture) Location: Ahmedabad with substantial travel to field areas in MP and Gujarat Education: Postgraduate in Agriculture Sciences or Equivalent. Professionals with education in other fields but having extensive experience of working in sustainable agriculture field may also be considered. Experience: • 10 to 15 years of experience is desired for this position. Out of these 4 years must be in a leadership position. • Ideal candidate need to have substantial experience of managing large result oriented sustainable agriculture projects. Primary Responsibility Candidate will be required to lead an ambitious project around sustainable agriculture pathways. Project will be focused on implementation, measurement and policy influence on low carbon agriculture & livestock practices, technologies, and methodologies. Project will be implemented at multiple locations and will involve multiple stakeholders. Project will require in-depth practical and theoretical understanding of natural farming practices, natural resources management, solar technologies, and market integration of smallholder farmers in addition to ability to make the intervention gender inclusive. Project has major focus on measurement of impact of sustainable practices on climate change for the purpose of generating evidence and policy discussions. Work Profile: • Manage a large multi-state programme on sustainable agriculture involving natural farming practices, solar technologies, tree/mangroves plantations and livestock development. • Project planning, implementation management, quality assurance, monitoring, reporting and government liaison will be integral part of job responsibility. • Manage field teams and enhancing their capacity on sustainable agriculture. Natural farming, Conservation agriculture, non-pesticide management, millet cultivation, solar irrigation, mangroves plantations and other sustainable practices are key focus areas in agriculture development. • Monitoring and Knowledge management particularly from climate change mitigation perspective will be key job responsibility. • Preparing and submitting high quality project progress reports. • Partnership development with government, donors, technical institutions, and other NGOs working in sustainable agriculture and related sectors. • Policy related work on sustainable agriculture. Close and continuous relationship is expected with state and national level related government departments/agencies. • Integrating technology in agriculture to increase efficiency and effectiveness. • Substantial amount of time is expected to be spent in the field to develop these programmes. Skills and competencies required to meet the job requirement: • Strong practical and theoretical knowledge around climate change issues in agriculture and livestock sectors would be mandatory. Understanding of carbon sequestration and related measurement frameworks is strongly desirable. • High level competency in managing the project in totality and independently. Financial management of project would be needed. • Having field level project implementation experience in agriculture, natural resources and livestock sectors. • Having skill of team and multi-stakeholders management • Strong professional writing and presentation skills. • Competent in dealing with Funding and Government agencies. • Good analytical skills and understanding of Agriculture related issues. • Understanding of monitoring and evaluation frameworks. • Having experience on training and capacity building.
